Pop: Miguel Bose, Julieta Venegas, Natalia y la Forquetina

Well, it seems it took me a little longer than expected to dig back into the latin music scene.. To get things started right, here are two excellent pop songs, 100% mexicano.

Miguel Bose - Morenamia - Papito - Julieta Venegas Mexican Latin Pop
Spanish-Italian pop singer Miguel Bosé celebrates a career of 30 years with Papito, a greatest hits album with an original take. His best songs are reworked to duets with latino stars like Shakira, Juanes, Alejandro Sanz, and many more. "Morenamía" features the always melancholical Julieta Venegas. I especially like the electro effects thrown in, together with that dragging beat it gives the song a 'hot-night-in-a-big-city" feel. Compare to the original! . More on Miguel Bosé and the (million-selling) album Papito here.

Natalia Lafourcade y La Forquetina - Casa - Ser Humano - Latin Art Pop Rock Alternative
Natalia y La Forquetina may have split up almost a year ago, their 2005 album Casa still sounds throughout Latin America. I hadn't heard "Ser Humano" in ages, until Ritmo Latino dug it up last month, and damn is that a great song. Singer Natalia Lafourcade is often described as 'art rock', but there's nothing elitary or snobby about this track: pure poprock fun. Too bad she said goodbye to her band, because those guitarists sure know what a good riff is. The crystal-clear production by the hand of Café Tacvba singer Emmanuel del Real is another asset. We don't usually recommend albums that were released this long ago, but Casa is certainly worth exploring!

Speaking of Miguel Bosé, in Mexico they are having this really funny contest: the main prize is... having your name tattooed on Miguel Bosé's body! Is anybody participating? :)
